I’ve been a little obsessed with shrink plastic lately. I know I’m late on that bandwagon, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of time with it until I knew I had some interesting way to use it. I started making matchbox shrines recently (for a gallery show, though I should soon have some for the etsy shop) and figured out a way to incorporate the shrink film.

Of course, now that the dam has burst, I’m using shrink film in everything. And, though I have to special order it, I’m looking forward to playing with the ink jet shrink film you can run though your printer. I have IDEAS, you see!

In the meantime, I’ll just keep using my hand-drawn odds and ends, like the wings on this heart, to add special touches to jewelry.

Sometimes, it really is about serendipity. I have gears and I have watch parts but I hadn’t thought about putting them together until my jumbled up container of supplies did it for me. I was rummaging through a box, looking for interesting bits, when I saw that this gear fit perfectly in this watch case.

Who am I to argue with fate? I found the back to the watch case, secured things with some industrial-strength epoxy, and wrote a letter from Innsmouth to evoke that steampunky, HP Lovecraft feel. Because using a gear that looks vaguely like a sun dial to tell time? Is totally steamy.

There were several different options for chain but this silver link has been one of my favorites lately.
